In seeking the ministry of an independent priest, one must be selective. An individual who claims to be a "Catholic priest" may be defining the term more broadly than other people do. Others replace the word "independent" with "retired" in hopes that they can avoid their distinctiveness from the Roman Catholic Church altogether. Many have never even attended a seminary.
We are proud to present our Independent Catholic priests to you along with their educational background and pastoral experience. Whether you are thinking of making Good Shepherd your parish or inquiring about how one of our priests can serve you on a special occasion, I'm sure you'll find their services to you a blessing in every way.
The priests of Good Shepherd:
Edward Paul Raible attended minor seminary at Chaminade Preparatory in Marcy, New York. He continued his studies at St. Meinrad's Abbey in Indiana and St. John Vianney Seminary in
Stubenville, Ohio. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in existential psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Having completed his theological studies at St. Francis by the Sea American Catholic Church in Laguna Beach, California, Bishop Raible was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Simon E. Talarczyk on February 2, 1980. He remained at St. Francis as Rector until he was ordained bishop on April 28, 1988 in Huntington Beach, California. On July 8, 1995, Bishop Raible's episcopacy was confirmed by the Brazilian Catholic Apostolic Church when he was conditionally consecrated by Dom Olinto Ferreira Pinto Filho at Catedral de Sant'Ana e Nossa Senhora Minina in Penha, Rio de Janeiro.
Bishop Raible is the Ordinary of our diocese. He is the founder and spiritual director of a community of men and women dedicated to the care of the sick and disadvantaged.
Bishop Delvaux completed twenty years of Catholic education in the Los Angeles area before his ordination to the priesthood by Cardinal Timothy Manning on May 25, 1974.
He earned his M.Div. degree at St. John Seminary in Camarillo, California.
Bishop Delvaux served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as associate pastor at two Roman Catholic parishes, St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes and St. Patrick Church in North Hollywood. He completed additional graduate courses in counseling at California State University, Long Beach. Before he was appointed pastor of Good Shepherd American Catholic Church, which he founded on February 1, 1993, Bishop Delvaux was associate pastor of St. Matthew Church in Orange, California. He was ordained bishop by the Most Reverend E. Paul Raible on October 1, 1995.
As rector he oversees the clergy and pastoral ministry of Good Shepherd Church. Among his duties as Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese, are the recruitment of clergy and the formation of future parishes.

Father Mariano earned his undergraduate degree at a private college in Poland where he majored in literature and languages. By the time he began his theological education in 1987, he had also spent two years studying classical and modern philosophy.
After completing requirements for his M.Div. degree, Father Mariano attended the Franciscan Biblical School in Jerusalem from 1991 to 1994. There he earned a Licentate Degree in Biblical Theology. He then served the people of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles for four years as a parish priest at St. Vibiana Cathedral in Los Angeles and St. Philip Church in Pasadena. He taught scripture classes in both English and Spanish and spent much of his time involved in pastoral counseling with individuals and couples.
Father Jack was born in Lynwood, California. While growing up, his family belonged to
St. Rose of Lima Church in Maywood. He began his preparation for the priesthood by entering the minor seminary of the Congregation of the Mission, the community founded by St. Vincent de Paul. By April of 1980, he had taken vows and been ordained deacon by Bishop Daniel Kucera, Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliett, Illinois.
Feeling called to special ministry as a deacon, Fr. Jack delayed petitioning for ordination to the priesthood. Instead, his community put him through additional training and certification at the Johnson Institute in Minnesota, which prepared him to serve families with members addicted to alcohol and other drugs.
In 1986, Father Jack co-founded the Family Intervention Center and Services (FICS). He currently sits on two Los Angeles County Commissions: the Commission on Alcoholism, and the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission. He also directs the Training Institute for Addiction Counselors (TIAC), and is on the faculty of Cypress College, teaching in the Human Services Department.
His parochial assignments in the Roman Catholic Church included St. Vincent de Paul Church in Los Angeles, and Miraculous Medal Church in Montebello, California. Father Jack joined our pastoral staff in January of 1998 and became director of our ministry to engaged couples. Acknowledging God's call to the priesthood, he was ordained on February 7, 1999 by Bishop E. Paul Raible. He is bilingual, speaking English and Spanish.
